Hand-Crafted in Ireland one-of-a-kind Felt and Silk Scarves, Fashion Accessories and Wearable Art
Astrid was born in Germany (1949). She moved to Ireland with her husband in 1979, and bought a house with a view to becoming self-sufficient.
Since her childhood Astrid was surrounded by creativity, fashion and art. Her mother was a textile designer and her grandparents owned a beautiful garden, which inspired Astrid greatly. She was trained as a professional make-up artist at Film Studio Hamburg and Thalia Theater, and has been involved in art all her life. In 1986 Astrid started painting on silk and a decade later began to see it as a viable business opportunity .
I started felting in 2002 and since then have built up a wide range of products including scarves, hats, garments and art-pieces. Today, I am a passionate felt artist and fashion designer with wonderful stockists and customers around the world.
I have received a lot of recognition for my work. bombyxMORI has been attending Ireland`s premium trade fair ‘Showcase’ in Dublin for more than 20 years. I was twice awarded with the first prize for felting in the RDS National Craft Competition. In 2015 I completed a three year certificate in felting – Fit in Filz – in Oberrot Germany. I have received further education under well known textile artists in Ireland & Germany. I am also a member of Feltmakers Ireland and Design Crafts Council of Ireland.
Under the hands of the designer/maker, the fibres enter into communication and transform into a new structure & design. After the felting process is completed, I enjoy working with free hand-embroidery to express my feelings.
bombyxMORI is proud to present wide range of felt clothing and felt scarves, hats and accessories with wooly, silky and funky textures. One-of-a-Kind Treasures.
Every piece is created with loose woolfibre and some are combined with silk, organic cotton, linen or synthetic fabric!
All pieces are entirely handmade from the start to finish.
The art of felting requires concentration, strength and precision while generating excitement and surprises!
The work explores pattern, colours and mixedmedia elements.
